Silica gel is the little packets that manufacturers place to inside the packaging of electronics, shoes, foods. They are used to help absorb moisture during shipping and storage. The packaging of these desiccant silica gel packets usually comes with a warning to “Throw Away” and “Do Not Eat”.
While eating silica gel isn’t toxic if ingested, the tiny size particles makes it easy for people to choke on it. Unfortunately, children sometimes can mistake the little silica gels as candy. If you and someone you know is choking on silica gel, call 911 and seek medical attention.
